Dubbo Zoo
The Education Service at Western
Plains Zoo aims to help students develop a positive attitude towards
animals conservation and environment. Western Plains Zoo provides an
outdoor classroom which enables sudents to encounter a wide variety of
animals in habitats that resemble their own natural environment .
Education
staff can provide support for teachers when planning an excursion to
the Zoo through lessons resources and information relating to the Zoo
and environmental issues in general.
Wellington Caves
The
Wellington Caves are located aproximately 8km south of Wellington and
is home to two exceptional caves, and a phosphate mine. The Cathedral
Cave is the largest of the two and is home to one of the world's
largest stalagmites. The Gaden Cave is renowned for it's delicate
limestone coral. The phosphate mine is the newest addition to the area
and features old workings from a World War 1 mine and also features a
number of fossils and bone fragments dating back from the prehistoric
era.
The Education service at Wellington Caves and Phosphate Mine
aims to help teachers and students in learning all aspects of the Caves
and Mine, including aspects of environmental studies, history, and
geology in a hands on learning enviromment.
The Wellington Osawano Japanese Gardens
Located
adjacent to the Caves the Gardens were a gift from the Osawano Town
Council. The Gardens present a unique opportunity for students to
experience unique and unusual plants in a different environment.
Old Dubbo Goal
Built
in 1871 the Goal was closed as a penal institute in 1966. Tour this
historic site with an experienced guide, view the orginal Gallows, plus
many historic items.
Dundullimal Homestead
Dundullimal
homestead is the Aboriginal word for hail storm. The local Aboriginal
people who lived on the site prior to European occcupation were the
Thunthullimal, who were part of the larger Wiradjuri nation.
Dindullimal retains many significant sites and artefacts from their
time here.
By 1836 the land was occupied by squatters who
made significant changes to the enviroment in order to produce goods
for their survival. The homestead is one of the oldest slab homes in
Australia and is a unique example of 'old' technology using the local
environment.
Dundullimal Homestead offers unique programs to
touch feel, live and breathe the day to day activities and events in an
isolated 19th Century squatters life.

CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope Visitors Discovery Centre.
The
Vistors Discovery Centre has many informative and interactive displays.
The Theatre runs 1/2 hourly programs about radio telescope astronomy
and the universe.
Warrumbungle National Park

Activities
are developed and led by specialist Discovery Rangers. The Information
Centre has information on walking tracks, geology, flora and fauna of
the parks area. A great place to camp and bush walk.
Jedda Boomerangs
A fascinating guided insight into the Boomerang, where it comes from, what it is, as well traditional food, hand tools and more.
Make
a Boomerang, decorate it, and even learn how to throw one. Jedda
Boomerang is well worth a visit for a great fun filled, 'hands on' time.
Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum
This
unique fossil and mineral gallery allows you to travel through time,
experiencing the wonder of ancient specimens that have been uncovered
from deep within the earth.
This contemporary Museum, in an
historic building, houses a collection of fossils and minerals that are
millions, even billions of years, old.
The Museum programs cater for stage 1 through to stage 6. Syllabus links can be either guided or self guided activity sessions.
