Do something different for Schoolies by opening your eyes to another world. For many Australians travelling through Cambodia is cheap however, thousands of Khmer locals cannot afford to feed themselves let lone their families. The Unleashed Cambodia project gives students the opportunity to take in the culture of Cambodia and give back to a country torn apart by war.
This Volunteer Adventure requires participants to put their energy & enthusiasm into providing a helping hand at some of Siem Reap’s most important centres for children. You will encounter 2 different volunteering experiences on this 2 week trip.
Many of these children have not received the love or affection that comes with having a mother and a father and your kind words, helping hand and fun personality will go a long way towards brightening the lives of each & every child.
Due to Cambodia’s turbulent history & high levels of poverty, much of Cambodia's population hasn’t had the opportunity to receive a formal education. With the growth of tourism & international trade, more emphasis has been placed on learning the fundamentals of English language. By developing even a basic grasp on English, the people of Cambodia will have better access to jobs & ultimately a better standard of living.
Whilst each Volunteer role varies, you can expect to fill your time with essential tasks such as;
- Assisting in teaching classes to children
- Helping with student homework (No Algebra, We Promise!)
- Assisting teachers in their lesson plans
- Assisting teachers in teaching English classes to the children
- General maintenance and cleaning of the school
- Teaching a class on your own
- Organising and playing games with the children during their breaks
- Teaching Basic Health & Dental Hygiene Techniques.
- Cooking meals for hungry mouths (Learn how to cook Authentic Cambodian Meals in the Process!), and most importantly;
- Spending time playing games & participating in fun activities with the children
In the evenings you will be taken to a variety of great local restaurants and bars for debriefing and a chance to unwind, relax and have fun after your hard day’s work.
Make no mistake; this is challenging work at the best of times. But the unwavering resilience & infectious smiles of these children will make even the toughest of days highly rewarding.
Unleashed Cambodia isn’t all work & no play. After each working week we encourage our fellow Adventurers to spend the weekend discovering the best that Siem Reap has to offer. Spend your days touring the mystic temples of Angkor Wat, learning about the atrocities that lay hidden beneath the Killing Fields or simply let time pass idle by as you explore all that this quaint city has to offer. Better yet, wait till nightfall and we will escort you to the bustling nightclubs, amazing restaurants & trendy bars that make up the infamous ‘Pub Street’.
