Cockatoo Island

Cockatoo Island is the largest island located in Sydney Harbour, it is a former imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and goal. It was one of Australia's biggest shipyards during the twentieth century, maritime industrial activity ceased in 1992.

The island can be accessed by Ferry or Rivercat service from Circular Quay or various other locations.

Cockatoo Island school excursions are most compatible with Primary and Secondary HSIE. The story of Cockatoo Island and the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust illustrates several key Civics and Citizenship themes.
